You can understand English, but using it in the moment can be a different story.
- In conversations: you have something to say, but by the time you’ve worked out how to say it, the conversation has moved on.
- At work: you know your subject, but explaining an idea or answering an unexpected question takes longer than you’d like.
- When speaking: you sometimes have to repeat yourself, and you’re unsure which sounds or words weren’t clear.
- When practising alone: you notice the same difficulties, but don’t know what to change or whether you’re improving.
In our lessons, we’ll use the situations you find difficult as a starting point so you can practise, get feedback and try again with support.
How we’ll work together
1. Decide what matters to you
In your first lesson, we’ll discuss where you use English, what feels difficult and what you want to do better. We’ll use that conversation and some speaking practice to agree on where to start.
2. Practise with personal feedback
Lessons combine conversation with focused activities based on your goals. We might practise explaining an idea, keeping a conversation going or making your speech clearer. I’ll help you notice what’s working and show you what to adjust.
3. Build on what you learn
You’ll leave with a lesson recording and a clear focus for practice. As we continue, we’ll revisit difficult areas, review your progress and adjust the lessons as your needs change.
Ey up, I’m Dan!
I’m a CELTA-qualified English teacher from Sheffield, with over 10 years of teaching experience.
I live in Japan, so I know how frustrating it can be to understand more than you can say and to struggle with conversations that would be easy in your own language.
In our lessons, you’ll have room to think, make mistakes and ask questions. I’ll also challenge you to try things you find difficult, with practical feedback to help you move forward.

Available lesson times
Tuesday–Saturday: 12:00–22:00 Japan Standard Time (JST / UTC+9)
Please check the time difference for your location. Appointments are first come, first served, so not every time within these hours will be available.
Flexible scheduling: you don’t need to take lessons on the same day or at the same time each week. Choose from the available appointments to fit your schedule. You’ll access the booking calendar and choose your lesson times after joining.
